Battle of the idiots 1
I think the best summary of the Israel/Lebanon idiocy so far is this one by Juan Cole. If this was alliance politics in EVE, it would be S.O.P. Since it’s unfortunately happening in real life and there are thousands dead and million-plus homeless, it’s a bit harder to laugh. But still, there is a shade of (very, very) dark comedy involved.
It’s become harder and harder for me lately to use EVE as a method of escapism - there was a time not so long ago when I was still able to laugh at these imaginary border disputes over exactly nothing but tradition and pride and throw my character merrily into them, thinking I was overdoing it to the point of it being slightly unrealistic.
Of course, there is nothing wrong as such about fiction that mirrors the world’s madness and helps us to keep in mind the general moronity of human kind… but to see your light game of parodical politics actually mirror of realities is chilling.
And of course, this is more about me realizing the connection than about the world, game, or humanity actually changing. But chilling nevertheless.
